The upcoming 2024 UMEA Solidarity Games are just around the corner, and the excitement is palpable.
This year, Masaka Secondary School in Masaka City will host the games during the Easter weekend, starting on Good Friday and culminating on Easter Monday.
The games, which are organized by the Uganda Muslim Education Association (UMEA), are exclusive to Muslim-founded secondary schools and will feature six disciplines, including Football, Netball, Volleyball, Handball, Table Tennis, and Badminton. It is worth noting that, apart from Netball, which is only open to girls, all of the other sporting disciplines will be competed for by both boys and girls.
The 2023 edition of the UMEA Solidarity Games was held at Kawanda Secondary School and drew over 40 Muslim-faith founded schools from across the country.
Since its inception in 1998, the UMEA games have been a platform for showcasing the sporting talents of Muslim secondary school students. In 2013, the games were rebranded to UMEA Solidarity Games, and this year’s event will be the ninth edition since the rebranding.
We cannot wait to see the incredible performances from the participating schools and athletes, and we wish all the competitors the best of luck!
