Team Uganda optimistic ahead of 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games

On Tuesday, 13th April the Uganda Olympic Committee launched the 100 days to the opening ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

UOC President Donald Rukare expressed his delight upon the launch

“We are pleased to launch the campaign and the countdown to the prestigious mega Sports event has officially started. We are very ready and prepared for the event.” In the same we are delighted to announce a partnership with ABSA Bank who are to give support to our athletes at the event.”

Stated the Uganda Olympic Committee President Donald Rukare.

Absa Uganda have contributed a package of Sh54.5m for medical cover and training kits for the athletes.

Athlete Halima Nakaayi expressed her readiness toward the forthcoming global event

“We are working hard with my team and I am very confident that we are to win gold medals in Tokyo. I will also use our National trials in Namboole to prepare more as well as boosting my fitness.”

Said the 800m female runner.

This is the 16th time Uganda will participate in the Olympic Games.

Uganda’s participation in the 32nd Olympiad is coordinated by a National organising committee chaired by the Minister of Education and Sports Janet Kataha Museveni.

The committee comprises of the Uganda Olympic Committee, National Council of Sports, Ministry of Education and Sports, Federations and the Uganda Paralympic Committee.
