By: Swaibu Luyombya

St. Juliana is one of the schools that have had a perfect start in the ongoing National Post primary schools competitions in Mbarara. They have won all the 5 games they have played in the group stages and have only conceded only one goal. They beat Royal Giant 2-1, Rock High 5-0, Kitara Model 6-0, St. Paul 1-0 and Maluku SS 2-0 in the five group games.

Head coach Daniel Segawa is optimistic that this time they have a big chance to win the competition given a brilliant start. He asserts,

“We have started the tournament so well and I believe we shall compete favourably. Our target during this year’s Copa Coca-cola is to win the title and with the squad we have we can fulfill our dream.”

Segawa also affirms that this year comprises of strong teams and calls upon for more support from the school’s directors.

“Every team in the tournament this year is strong and almost every game is like a final. I call upon our school’s directors to make sure they help us with more support. The games are many and so we need that extra support.”

Segawa and his charges will return to action today for their final group game against Saviour High school at 2:00pm.

Segawa is also a former coach at Jannan Schools and also played for SC Villa and Friends Lugazi during his hey days.

He was also the captain of the Risah Standard team that reached the 2012 finals in Tororo but unfortunately lost 2-0 to the eventual winners St. Mary’s Kitende. In 2011, he played in the National Post Primary dream team that went to South Africa.

St. Juliana has featured in 7 NPP final tournaments since 2012 in Tororo where their Polific striker Yunus Sentamu emerged as the second Top scorer after Risah Standard’s Moses Batali. So far their best performance was reaching the Semi final and were knocked out by St Mary’s Kitende in 2013 (Kabale).
