Ogwel hails Woodball leadership, promises government support

National Council of Sports General Secretary Dr. Bernard Patrick Ogwel has hailed the Uganda Woodball Federation leadership that has led to the tremendous development of the game.

Ogwel said this at the UWBF annual congress that was held on Saturday, February 8th 2020 at the federation’s offices in Kampala.

“I appreciate the leadership of Paul Mark Kayongo that has tremendously developed the game of Woodball in the country.

Woodball has made history as a sport and now it’s being played in various parts of the country which makes it one of the priority sports activities in the country. The government recognizes the development of the game Woodball.”

Ogwel also promised government support towards the infrastructural development of various sports activities in the country

“We are working on the development of infrastructure of other sports activities and we are doing this on the public private partnerships arrangement. The goodwill we have got time to have a meeting with the Kampala District land board who have given us green light to identify the land for sports infrastructural development and we procure.”

I was excited that this one of the key areas the president of Woodball is interested in to ensure we have a course for the game in Uganda as a country and so we are to support them in case they get the land around Kampala we shall pursue.”

Ogwel also gave assurance to the athletes that the government shall continuously provide Shs5m for gold medalists, Shs3m for runners up at the global and continental stage. He confirmed that the state house has requested NCS to draft a detailed policy document that will guide the overall management of sports scholarships and stipends.
