CAF CL : Desabre on winning start as Wydad storm quarters

Former Cranes coach Sebastien Desabre registered a 3-1 win over USM Alger on his return as Wydad Casablanca head coach at the Mohamed V. Complex in Casablanca on Friday evening.

The Frenchman was unveiled on Tuesday 21st January on a six month contract replacing Serbian Zoran Manojlovic.

Walid El Kanti, Badi Aouk and Congolese striker Francy Kasengu Kazadi scored for Desabre’s side in the game they needed nothing but a win to progress to the knock out stage.

The victory saw Wydad Casablanca move to nine points to join leaders Mamelodi Sundowns (10 points) as the two quarterfinalists from Group C.

USM Alger (Algeria) and Angola’s Petro de Luanda were subsequently eliminated with two points apiece.

In another game played on Friday night, Zamalek and TP Mazembe drew 0-0 in Cairo, Egypt. Uganda Cranes left back Joseph Ochaya featured for the Congolese champions.

Only Wydad Casablanca, TP Mazembe and Dennis Onyango’s Mamelodi Sundowns have so far booked places in this season’s quarter finals.
